Pharmaceutical drugs may provide relief from pain and anxiety in patients with terminal illnesses, but sometimes complementary therapies that utilize human touch may be needed to help patients feel at ease.
A small pilot study found that children between the ages of 7-16 with terminal illnesses
experienced
decreased pain, anxiety, heart rate, and respiratory rate after undergoing
Reiki sessions.
Reiki is a therapy that can relax, provide comfort, and compassion for this population.
Hopefully larger studies will be funded in order to show statistical significance.
